The Elizabethton Baseball team are District 1-3A Champions.

The Cyclones used a big third inning and held off David Crockett to claim the District 1-3A Championship on Monday at Joe O’Brien Field.

Elizabethton is set to begin the Region 1-3A tournament as the No. 1 seed from District 1 on Friday afternoon. The tournament location is to be announced.

In the bottom of the first, Elizabethton plated the first run of the afternoon when JD Hooks crossed home plate after a Crockett balk. EHS was unable to keep the inning going but took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the first.

The Pioneers loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the second, but Jackson Buckles recorded a strikeout to get out of the jam.

Elizabethton took advantage of a pair of Crockett errors to load the bases, and Jack Blevins hit a single that scored Brayden Buckles. Hooks hit a double to left field to score Logan Campbell and Jeriah Griffin, while Steven Meadows put the ball in play that allowed Blevins to score.

That gave Elizabethton a 5-0 lead after two complete innings.

Crockett got a run back in the top of the third, and two more in the top of the fourth to close the gap to 6-3.

Elizabethton got back on the board in the bottom of the fourth when B Rowland scored off a Meadows sacrifice fly.

From there, the Cyclones were able to keep the Pioneers at bay to secure the win.

Hooks went 2-for-2 with two RBI. Rowland and Blevins had a hit and an RBI apiece, while Rowland and Griffin had a hit apiece for the Orange and Black.

Buckles picked up the win on the mound in 5.2 innings of work as he struck out six batters while allowing just two earned runs on seven hits.

Justin Whitehead struck out three batters in 1.2 innings of work and allowed no hits or runs to pick up the save.

Ronnie Hall and Marcus Greenway had two hits apiece for Crockett.
