CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Montgomery Central Indians hosted the Sycamore War Eagles with each of their seasons on the line. In the end, the Indians offense exploded for 11 runs behind starting pitcher Rebecca Fowler’s no-hitter, leading to a 11-0 win after five innings of play.

The Indians couldn’t have asked for a better start to the game, scratching across five runs in the first inning to take the early advantage. Montgomery Central’s offense was led by Mallary Ashby, Sydney Borowick and Asylee Phillips, who all had two hits during the contest. Indians head coach Chris Jackson said his team’s hot start was exactly what he wanted to see from his players this time of year.

“That’s the main thing, that’s how you put pressure on teams,” Jackson said. “You get up early, make them play from behind, and we did a great job of that tonight.”

On the defensive side of the ball, Montgomery Central was led by right-handed pitcher Rebecca Fowler, who threw a no-hitter while allowing zero runs to score and striking out six.

“She was unhittable, literally,” Jackson told Clarksville Now. “She didn’t walk anybody on balls which is huge for us, she got ahead early on counts, and there was great defense behind her. She was simply just amazing.”

With the 11-0 win, the Indians extend their season and are set to play the loser of the Creek Wood and Fairview High game, which recently got rained out. No matter who their opponent is, Jackson’s message to his team is clear: We’ve been here before.

“The last few years we’ve been in situations where we lost early in the tournament, that’s not new to us,” Jackson said. “We’ve come back later in the tournament and won, and those girls have been there, done that. We don’t look backwards, we look forwards.”
