The Tullahoma High School baseball team has claimed their third straight district title.
The Wildcats were named champions Monday when the district championship game was cancelled due to weather. Since the ‘Cats had made the championship game already and were the regular season champions they get to host the region tournament.
To get to the championship game Tullahoma beat Marshall County 2-0 in the first round and beat Lawrence County 3-0 in the semifinal.
Against Marshall County, Evan Tomlin threw the complete game shutout in 103 pitches. He struck out eight batters and walked just one.
The Wildcats had just six hits and only one extra base hit. The only RBI in the game was Phillip Lemmon’s on a two out single in the fourth to make it 2-0. Hunter Hogan had the only two hit game. Andrew Fulmer, Baylan Tuten, Lemmon and Trevor Cole had the other hits. Tuten had a double. Jayron Morris and Tuten took the two walks for Tullahoma.
Tullahoma reached base six times in the game against Lawrence County, four hits and two walks. Tomlin had two hits. Mason Bratcher and Lemmon had a hit each. Tomlin hit an RBI triple in the first. Bratcher had a double later in the inning. Fulmer and Morris had the base on balls.
Tuten started on the mound for the ‘Cats and went five innings, striking out 10 batters. He threw 91 pitches, allowed just two hits and walked three batters. Hogan picked up a two inning save on 27 pitches. He allowed just one hit and walked one batter.
Tullahoma had six players named to the 2024 All District team: Jayron Morris, Evan Tomlin, Baylan Tuten, Andrew Fulmer, Hunter Hogan and Mason Bratcher. Head coach Bryan Morris was named the Class AAA District 8 Coach of the Year.
The Wildcats first game in the region tournament was against DeKalb County Thursday night and they won so they will play Upperman in the Region 4 championship game at noon today.Â
