Top-ranked Tennessee baseball (41-9, 18-7 SEC) is set to battle Vanderbilt (33-17, 11-14 SEC) Saturday in game two of a three-game weekend series in Nashville.

First pitch at Hawkins Field is at 3:00 p.m. ET on the SEC Network (2 p.m. local). This is the first of two televised games in the series as game three is on ESPN2. Game one was available via the SEC Network + stream.

Reminder that the online broadcasts can be accessed on any mobile device through WatchESPN. WatchESPN can be accessed through the ESPN App, or online at espn.com/watch. You can also watch or listen to the game using the links.

The Vols are looking to clinch the series with a win on Saturday after winning the opener, 8-4. The Vols led util the sixth inning, when Vanderbilt plated three runs thanks to a flurry of gap-finding ground balls. However, Tennessee’s offense came alive in the eighth, when Kavares Tears launched a three-run home run to put the Vols back out in front.

Tennessee didn’t relinquish the lead from there on out, winning a great baseball game under the lights in Hawkins Field.

RECAP: Vols take game one in Nashville

Prior to this weekend’s series, the Vols won their seventh straight SEC series last weekend, beating Florida in games one and three to win the series.

After splitting a Friday doubleheader with a 6-2 win and 4-3 loss, Tennessee used an 11-run sixth inning to run-rule the Gators in game three, 16-3.

Thanks to another impressive SEC series win from Tennessee and a pair of series losses from Texas A&M and Arkansas, the Vols catapulted their two SEC counterparts in Monday’s rankings to takeover the No. 1 spot. Tennessee is now the unanimous number 1 team in the country for the first time since early June of 2022.

The first time Tennessee achieved the nation’s top ranking was in the middle of the 2022 season, a ranking they kept until their NCAA Super Regionals loss to Notre Dame. Therefore, this week’s No. 1 ranking marks the second time the Vols have ever been number one.

WATCH: Tony Vitello Discusses Series-Opening Win Over Vanderbilt

Tennessee followed up its series win in Gainesville with a 6-3 midweek win over Queens. In addition to the Florida series win, Tennessee owns series sweeps over defending national champions LSU and Missouri in Knoxville, series wins over No. 15 Georgia and Ole Miss at home, and series wins over No. 4 Kentucky and Auburn on the road.

As for Vanderbilt, the Commodores have had a shaky season and are currently in a six-game SEC losing streak, having been swept by Georgia last week after losing two of three to Mississippi State two weeks ago while also losing Friday night’s opener to Tennessee. Vanderbilt has simply been an average SEC squad so far this season, but it has been great at home. The ‘Dores are 26-7 in Nashville and have only lost one SEC series at home (Mississippi State). Vandy has swept two SEC series at home (Missouri, Auburn).

Tennessee would join Mississippi State as the only schools to win a series against Vanderbilt in Nashville with a win on Saturday.

Injury Note

-Sophomore RHP AJ Russell is still not on the active roster as he deals with forearm soreness, per a UT spokesperson. There is still a chance Russell returns in the regular season and a good chance he pitches in the postseason.
