The Cloudland softball team saw their season come to an end just shy of the Spring Fling.
The Lady ‘Landers were unable to answer a big second-inning by Oliver Springs and fell 8-2 to the Lady Bobcats in the Class A Sectional at Coalfield School on Sunday evening.
The game was moved from Oliver Springs to Coalfield Sunday afternoon after Saturday flooding made Oliver Spring’s field unplayable.
With the loss, Cloudland’s incredible season came to a close one game shy of advancing to the state tournament in Murfreesboro.
Cloudland had to battle from an early deficit.
After CHS went quietly in the top of the first, the Lady Bobcats saw South Carolina commit Chloe Lackey score to give OS a 1-0 lead. Reagan Turbyfill recorded a strikeout to end the inning and strand two Oliver Springs runners.
CHS battled back in the top of the second.
Izabella Christman was hit by a pitch to open the inning, and the senior scored after Turbyfill hit a double to plate the run. CHS was unable to keep the inning going as the game went to the bottom of the second tied at 1-1.
The Lady Bobcats, however, plated six runs in the second to take a 7-1 lead.
In the fourth, CHS was able to answer again.
Christman opened the inning with a single. Layken Blair put the ball into play and an OS error allowed Christman to score and Blair to advance to second. Peyton Preswood drew a two-out walk. However, the Lady ‘Landers were forced to strand the two runners.
Oliver Springs was able to add a run in the bottom of the sixth, and CHS was unable to rally in the seventh.
Rea. Turbyfill went 2-for-3 with a RBI, while Ryan Turbyfill and Christman each had a hit. Eowyn McCoury and Preswood drew walks.
In the pitching circle, Rea. Turbyfill recorded five strikeouts and allowed two earned runs on four hits.
Lackey was 2-for-4 with three RBI for Oliver Springs, while Emmeline Patton had two hits and a RBI.
