Menomonee Falls senior Simone Lee has been named the Gatorade state girls volleyball player of the year, becoming the third player from the Indians program to receive the award.
The award recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.
The 6-foot-1 outside hitter led the Indians to a 48-4 record and the WIAA Division 1 state title this past season. Lee, a Penn State recruit, recorded 660 kills, 355 digs, 100 service aces and 57 blocks while compiling a kill percentage of .461.
A two-time first-team all-state selection, Lee is a 2013-14 First Team Under Armour All-American as named by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. She was a member of the 2012 U.S. Women’s Junior National Team and the 2013 USA Volleyball Girls’ Youth National Team.

Lee has maintained a 3.41 GPA in the classroom. A devoted member of the Christ the King Baptist Church Community, she has volunteered locally as a peer tutor and youth volleyball coach. She has also participated in the Falls/Sussex Youth Leadership program with a mission of inspiring community trusteeship in area youth.
“Simone Lee is a natural leader who leads by example in both practice and in matches,” Menomonee Falls coach J.C. Bruns said in a statement. “In spite of all the accolades she has received, she has let none of it go to her head. She is still the down-to-earth teammate she has always been. She loves playing with her teammates and they love playing with her.”
Lee has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball on an athletic scholarship at Penn State University beginning in the fall of 2014.
Lee joins recent Gatorade state winners Kaysie Shebeneck of Burlington (2012-2013 & 2011-12), Madison La Follettte's Crystal Graff (2010-11 & 2009-10), Burlington Catholic Central's Carol Henney (2008-09) and Memononee Falls' Janelle Gabrielsen (2007-08).
